Kerrang magazine cover analysis:

Image And positioning – This particular Kerrang cover features Bullet for my valentine’s vocalist matt tuck, also surrounding the larger image of matt tuck, are images of other bands such as My chemical romance, Rammstein, Slipknot and madina lake, along with a single image of Pete Steele, the images around the cover highlight the image of Matt, because it draws your attention to the bigger image.

Colours – the main colours used on Kerrang mag’ are mainly Red, black and white, the colour black represents strength and danger but also has a sense of heaviness which would represent the music the magazine mainly focuses on.

The colour red represents Danger and is quite a striking colour; the editor has outlined the smaller pictures in red, to make them noticeable. So people don’t ignore it even though the main focus is on Bullet For My Valentine.

The colour white it used for the majority of the text on the black or red background colour, because it stands out and is noticeable, especially on this particular cover. but on the name of some of the magazines it’s BLACK text on a WHITE background which gives the name effect of being bold and noticeable

Target audience – Kerrang magazine is obviously aimed at mainly the younger generation of ‘rockers’ who enjoy rock and metal music genres, “We will never lose!” “Bullet for my valentine their fight for metal supremacy” would really catch the eye of the target audience as the fans of bullet for my valentine will argue that the band is in fact a metal band, but the people who may not be fans, will argue otherwise, the fact that they use a quote from the band itself will intrigue the target audience majorly.

Text – The font used it quite chunky so it is very eye-catching and bold so you don’t miss it, but the name of the magazine and the text is almost an image in itself, the effect used on the text for the name of the magazine (KERRANG!) has almost a smashed glass effect to it, making Kerrang!’s quote “live life loud, every Wednesday” link in with it, because the sound of glass smashing, is loud…obviously.
